2018 Guide to Siargao Island and DIY Itinerary

Looking for a place to travel? Consider the Philippines. The Philippines is part of the Southeast Asian countries which consisting of more than 7000 islands. These islands are inhabited by friendly locals and many indigenous tribes. Visiting these islands is a must-see in the Philippines for their pristine beaches and marvelous natural wonders to interesting historic sites and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Here are some islands that are definitely worth travelling to: Coron and El Nido in Palawan, Bantayan Island in Cebu, Panglao Island in Bohol, Boracay Island in Aklan, Siquijor Island, Camiguin Island, Siargao Island in Surigao Del Norte and Apo Island in Negros.

Out of which, the Siargao Island is considered to be surfing capital of the Philippines and paradise destinations for travelers all over the world. Siargao Island is part of the province of Surigao del Norte, Philippines and it is situated at the north-eastern part of Mindanao. So what makes this island so special? Siargao is a tropical island, which is surrounded by coconut palms and coral reefs. A relaxed atmosphere on this island would make anyone stay here for a long time.

Siargao island also hosts the international surfing competition, which is held annually. Thus making this island a paradise for people who want to learn surfing as well as for the Pro surfers. The best season to visit the island from August to November.

How to get there

There to ways to get there in Siargao Island.

By Air

There are direct flights from Manila to Siargao or Cebu to Siargao. The top two airline operators are Philippine Airline and Cebu Pacific.

By Sea

From Cebu port you can take a ferry bound to Surigao port, from there take another small ferry going to Siargao island or Dapa port and take a tricycle or habal-habal going to General Luna where the main tourist attraction located.

Getting around the island

For getting around the island it is better to rent a motorcycle and this is especially needed if you plan to stay out late since the habal-habal fares increase in the night time. In case you are unable to ride the motorcycle along with an additional cost for the driver, who would take you around the island and show you some of the best spots.

Places to Eat

General Luna is one of the busiest town and a tourist hub for the island. It is here that all the restaurants are located. You can try any of the restaurants here based on your preference.

Things to do

Surfing is definitely one of the attractions that you need to try on the Siargao Island, especially since it’s the surfing capital of the Philippines. The waves here are just perfect for surfers be it advanced or beginners. In case you don’t know, surfing, however, want to give it a try – you can hire a trainer who guides you through the basic surfing lessons. Please note – the cost for learning to surf includes the surfboard.

If you are not interested in surfing, you can definitely relax on the beach. You can even hire a motorized banca, either with someone else or a private one just for yourself and visit the three beautiful islands of Naked Island, Daku Island and Guyam Island and you can also include in your island hopping to visit Sohoton Cove which you can see their beautiful lagoons and encounter with the sting-less jellyfish.

Another thing you can do is to explore the island, you can rent a motorcycle or hire a habal-habal. Go to northern part of the island, you can visits Tayagban Cave Pool here you do a short trek inside the cave pool and the entrance fee will be 70 pesos, next is Magpupungko Rock Pool this a natural rock pool where you can soak in the salt water pool and the fee is 50 pesos.

If you continue all the way to the northern part you will visits Pacifico Beach, Alegria Beach, TakTak Falls and Sugba Lagoon.

6:00 – 9:00 – Dinner and Chill-out at Kermit’s Restaurant

7:00 – 8:00 – Tayagban Cave Pool

Siargao Island are definitely for surfer or wannabe surfer because it will not be known as Surfing Capital of the Philippines without no basis but then there are tourist spots for non-surfer which definitely worth and beautiful spots.
